POKOTABI / Kinraku
金楽 浅草
Long-running Asakusa yakiniku shop Kinraku draws diners for thick-cut harami skirt, beef tongue, and tare-glazed cuts grilled over charcoal. Here is what to expect and how to plan a visit.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Rolling hefty chunks of meat across the charcoal grill to develop a crisp sear is central to the dining experience at Kinraku. Harami skirt is served as thick blocks, drawing praise for how it locks in juices when cooked slowly over the heat. Diners often enjoy it simply seasoned with salt to savor the beef flavor, or wrapped inside fresh sanchu lettuce leaves.
Equally popular alongside harami is the beef tongue, noted for its thick cut yet tender, clean bite. For kalbi short rib and loin, a punchy tare sauce that keeps sweetness to a minimum pairs naturally with rice. Offal selections such as horumon, kobukuro uterus, and premium mino rumen are cut into generous portions and praised for their distinct textures. Ordering a rotation of cuts alongside beer or a sour makes for a satisfying grill session.
Between rounds of grilling, guests turn to raw vegetables tossed in a tare-based dressing, assorted kimchi, or senmai sashimi tripe. To wrap up the meal, choices include refreshing cold noodles or comforting abalone porridge.
Because the charcoal grills generate noticeable smoke, wearing clothes you do not mind smelling of barbecue is advisable. Dinner reservations are recommended, and reviews note that seatings may be capped at 90 minutes during peak periods. Payment is cash only.
